The price of electricity on the power exchanges varies daily, but most customers always pay the same price. coneva Flex lets you leverage this untapped potential and enter flexibility markets to reduce your overall energy costs or those of your customers. This is because intelligent and automated load shifting - that is, shifting the time at which electricity is consumed - is often all that is needed to take advantage of variable electricity prices. In this way, EV charging operators can reduce their electricity procurement costs with time-of-use (ToU) tariffs, energy suppliers can offer their customers variable energy tariffs, or companies can leverage their load flexibility potential via intelligent energy management.

How does energy flexibility with coneva work?

The optimization of energy procurement costs takes place in two steps. First, we connect the relevant units to our technology platform coneva core and install suitable measurement and control technology. Then we determine the load flexibility potential under the given restrictions – such as the forecast power consumption, the required base load, or the availability of controllable consumption units and own power generators. Subsequently, coneva Flex creates a continuously and algorithmically updated schedule for price-optimized power consumption. The electricity supplier receives this consumption schedule via an automated interface to purchase the required quantities of electricity. In the end, coneva Flex executes the optimized consumption schedules fully automatically, so there is no additional effort on the customer side.

    Frequently asked questions about load shifting

    The most important prerequisite is the quarter-hourly metering of electricity consumption. Otherwise, variable electricity tariffs cannot be used and billed. For larger companies, quarter-hourly metering usually is already implemented by the grid operator; for smaller companies or private households, smart meters are necessary.
    Charging stations for e-mobility are ideal for price-optimised load shifting, for example for e-fleet operators in the logistics sector, larger e-car fleets or municipal utilities with a high density of electric vehicles in the respective grid area. Other flexible electricity consumers are heat pumps, stationary battery storage or cooling units.
    No, this cannot happen. There is always enough electricity available so that the user's comfort is fully maintained if the load is not shifted. For example, the e-car continues to charge even if the user does not follow the price indications of the charging tariff and does not postpone the charging process. However, only following the electricity price-optimised charging plan leads to a reduction in electricity costs. If the user does not follow the recommendations reflected in the prices of the variable tariff, he does not reduce his electricity costs either.
    A combination - or even an initial set-up - of different energy management solutions including variable electricity tariffs is possible. The existing measures are added as restrictions in the algorithm used to create the price-optimised consumption schedule and are thus further taken into account in everyday operations.
